The Silk Road through Barskoon – Juuku Valley
11 days/10nights program 6 days on horse
Then we drive you to Barskoon village, south shore of the lake Issyk Kul (Bishkek – Barskoon: 350km. around 5-6hours drive with some stops). Option: We might stop at Burana Tower near Tokmok town.
Day 1. August 01- Your arrival in Bishkek We meeting you and drive to Bishkek city (35km). We change money (euro/dollars) into local currency (som) and stop for an early breakfast or tea/coffee in one of the cafes in the city.
It’s 20km away from the main road. We will need about 1 extra hour for this visit then.
Lunch is on the way in Boom Canyon road cafes. Arrival in Barskoon village at our place later. Prepare and pack for the trek. Dinner (home kitchen) and sleep in our guesthouse rooms.
Day 2. August 02 – After breakfast we drive you shortly to our horse stable where you meet the team and horses. We ride up enjoying the fresh morning air from the horse stable to Ak-Dobo Valley. We cross the Taarylga River and ride through fir-tree forests below beautiful snow-covered mountains. Enjoy the views of wide open pastures where shepherds graze their flocks. Overnight in tents in the Kok-Bulak Valley.
Day 3. August 03 – We ride from Kok-Bulak, cross the Kichi-Jargylchak River and pass through the Kindik jailoo (meadow). The altitude will be around 2800m high. On the way down, we will pass through an amazingly rich tapestry of flowers and experience the breathtaking views of mountain scenery and Lake Issyk-Kul. Overnight in tents near Kindik Valley.
Day 4. August 04 – Our riding goes at around 2200-2500m. high altitude, along the Tien-Shan fir tree forests, will come down to Juuku Valley. We will ride until the hot spring in the next valley. After having a bath in hot springs, we will continue our riding up to the entrance of Juuku valley, the famous valley where Ella Maillart, the Swiss writer and photographer, rode during her trip to Kyrgyzstan in the year of 1932. Overnight in tents near Tash-Koroo Valley.
Day 5. August 05 – We ride through the Kashka-Suu Valley, see and experience the real nomadic life of the Kyrgyz people. Cross the Kashka-Suu River several times before reaching thecamp site near the river in front of It –Tish Peak. Overnight in tents.
Day 6. August 06- Today we will ride deeper into the Juuku Valley. We will meet more Kyrgyz shepherds and be invited for lunch and “Kymyz” (the national drink made from mare’s milk). The impressive It-Tish Mountain looms overhead at 4808 m. Overnight in tents in the valley of Dunguromo River.
Day 7. August 07-The last day of our riding. From the camp place we ride up to the Dunguromo Pass (3773m.), then down to the Sary-Moinok Valley where we are met by the car and driven into Barskoon village again. Enjoy a hot bath and dinner and overnight in a guest house rooms.
Day 8. August 08 – After breakfast we drive you to Karakol town in the east of the lake (around 130km.). Visit Jeti-Oguz Gorge on the way. Lunch is in Karakol town in one of city cafes. After lunch: visits of Karakol history museum, Moslem mosque, Russian Orthodox Church, Prjevalsky museum. Dinner and sleep in the guesthouse.
Day 9. August 09 – After early breakfast we start from Karakol and drive you to Cholpon-Ata city, north shore of the lake Issyk-Kul. Visit of petroglyph site and Ruh-Ordo cultural complex. Lunch is on the way in Boom Canyon. Karakol – Bishkek is around 400km.
Option: on the way to Bishkek we may visit Burana Tower near Tokmok town. (In case we don’t have enough time on the Day 1) Arrival in Bishkek city and sleep in the hotel.
Day10. August 10 – Free day in Bishkek city. Our guide will accompany you for the city tour.
Day 11. August 11 – We drive you to airport.
*Rider of the lost paths reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary due to weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances.
*Each rider should have their own insurance coverage including horse riding.
The price for this program is 2150 euro per person.
This price includes:
-All transfers “airport to airport”
-6 days horse trek with our team
-All meals at Barskoon and Karakol
-During the horse trek all your meals will be prepared by our cook in the mountains.
-We have lunch or dinner in the city it’s restaurant or café with a range of menu.
-2 nights at Barskoon guest house before and after the trek,5 days tents during the horse trek
-1night at Karakol guesthouse
-2nights at Bishkek hotel
And this price doesn’t include:
-Museum entries in Karakol/Cholpon-Ata/Burana tower and in Bishkek

The trek includes:
Accommodation in the guest house upon arrival and before departure in Barskoon village, accommodation in tents during the trek, English speaking tour guide, cook, horseman, 3 meals a day, tents, horses with all equipment, cooking equipment.
You need to bring:
Down jacket, warm sweater, warm sleeping bag, silk sleeping bag liner, rain gear (waterproof trousers should have an opening on the outside at the bottom of the leg in order to put on and take off without removing your trekking boots), 2-3 pairs of warm socks, waterproof trekking boots, gloves, sunglasses, sun cream with high UV-protection, lip balm with UV-protection, torch, personal medicine, metal water bottle (0.75 L), Therm-A-Rest mat, riding chaps, Micropure (or any other water purification).
